When planning a planting project, selecting the right grade and size for your plants is crucial. At Restore Native, we grow our plants in various grades to suit different needs, species, and budgets. Here’s a breakdown of the options we offer and why they’re ideal for specific situations.
T40 Cell Grade
Our 40-cell grade is perfect for hardy, fast-growing species like Mānuka and Kānuka. These plants develop strong roots while maintaining a balanced size above ground. This grade is an affordable choice for establishing robust species quickly. The smaller size of the cells encourages compact and focused root growth, ensuring the plants are ready to thrive once planted.
T28 Cell Grade
The 28-cell grade is a standard option for revegetation and riparian planting projects. Slightly larger than the 40-cell grade, these plants have a bit more growth and are suitable for a wide range of species. With strong root development and tidy top growth, this grade is designed to provide hardy plants that establish well in various conditions.
T10 Grade (1 Litre Grade)
For slower-growing, long-lived trees like Tītoki, Tōtara, and Kahikatea, we use a one-litre grade. These trees spend extra time in the nursery, developing a strong trunk and robust root system. This added time and space in the pot provide the “horsepower” these species need to establish successfully in their new environment.
How to Choose
The right grade depends on your site conditions, project goals, and budget. For most revegetation projects, the 28-cell grade works well for a range of species. For hardy, fast-growing plants in low-cost projects, the 40-cell grade is a practical choice. When dealing with challenging sites or planting slower-growing species, larger grades like the one-litre option are the best bet.
No matter the grade, we ensure that every plant we grow has strong roots and healthy growth. If you’re unsure which grade is best for your project, we’re happy to help you choose the right plants for your site.
