When it comes to buying native plants, the size of the pot isn't the most important factor. What really matters is the development of the root system. At Restore Native, we prioritize strong, healthy roots that ensure our plants will thrive in their new homes.
A well-developed root structure is the foundation of any healthy plant. In this video, you will see the roots in our pots are well-established, extending to the bottom of the pot. This creates a dense and aggressive root system, which is exactly what you want when planting. A strong root system means the plant will settle in quickly, grow vigorously, and establish itself faster once it’s in the ground.
In contrast, plants grown elsewhere can sometimes develop spiralling roots, especially if they’re left in pots for too long. This can lead to problems when the plant is transplanted, as the roots struggle to spread out and establish themselves. We avoid this by potting our plants early and using trays that promote healthy root growth.
Our focus on root development means that when you purchase plants from us, you’re getting more than just a well-sized pot. You’re getting plants that are ready to take on the elements and grow strong in your garden or restoration project. From flax, grasses to all our other native species, each plant is grown with care to ensure it has the solid foundation needed to flourish in New Zealand's diverse conditions.
